Job Description

The Insite team at SBM, is building the next generation service provider platform targeting facilities management. Our platform gives service providers the tools necessary to deliver world class services, with empowered associates on top of standardized processes. 

Our domestic and international customers are fortune 100 companies in the bio tech, pharmaceutical and high tech industries.

In the next generation of Insite, we are converting to a SaaS model, pushing to the cloud, rolling out a mobile app, as well as looking to incorporate wearable tech and robotic workforce automation.

The DevOps Engineer is responsible for SBM’s entire AWS cloud infrastructure, deployment pipelines, and application environments. This includes the continuous implementation of DevOps principles and tooling for system performance, scalability, reliability and fault tolerance.  This position is to augment an existing DevOps engineer(s).

Key partners on the InSite team are the Full Stack Development, Mobile Development, Quality Assurance and Customer Care departments.

  • Support, develop, enhance, and maintain our cloud infrastructure for high availability and scale.
  • Configuring and integrating with third-party services.
  • Responsible for data backup integrity and failover / fallback strategies.
  • Optimize server configuration and network architecture.
  • Manage sprint release and hot-fix processes.
  • Manage developer and administrator accounts including on-boarding and off-boarding.
  • Help to increase the performance, scale, and robustness of internal distributed systems.
  • Monitor intrusion detection and vulnerability scanning system.
  • Frequently, run performance testing, identify potential performance issues and help the team find a resolution.
  • Split on-call duty with other engineers on the team.
  • Question everything and push everyone to embrace change.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering or equivalent prior work experience and training.
  • 4+ years of experience as a DevOps engineer, preferably on SaaS engineering team.
  • 3+ years of developing software using agile methods.
  • Extensive experience with AWS services including but not limited to EC2, Lambda, S3, RDS, Lambda, VPC, CloudFront, Route 53, CodeDeploy, SQS, SNS, and SES.
  • Experience using infrastructure as code tools like AWS CloudFormation / configuration management tools like Packer and Chef.
  • Hands-on experience with build automation, continuous integration, delivery and deployment. We are using Atlassian Bamboo and Bitbucket Pipelines.
  • Experience configuring and utilizing system monitoring and alerting tools across all environments. We are using CloudWatch and New Relic.
  • Firm grasp of the web stack protocols / technologies (e.g., headers, caching, WebSockets, IP/TCP/HTTP(S), SSL/TLS, CDNs, DNS, proxies).
  • Solid understanding of version control (Git) concepts and build processes.
  • Experience administrating via shells using BASH/PowerShell scripting.
  • Working knowledge of Memcached/REDIS or similar in memory database (ideally in the context of AWS ElastiCache).
  • Experience building and operating distributed / large scale systems.
  • Experience being successful in a fast-paced startup environment is a big plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate cross-functional groups to accomplish goals.
