The InSite software division is a separate SBM business entity that is chartered with the design, development and support of the company’s technology used by its massive work force and independent clients.  We are building the next generation service provider platform targeting facilities management.  Our platform gives service providers the tools necessary to deliver world class services, with empowered associates on top of standardized processes.  The InSite team is tasked with developing cutting edge web and mobile applications that differentiate SBM from its competitors.  We value our work force as much as we do our customers which is why we have made this large investment in technology.

The Senior Android Engineer will be responsible for the InSite mobile application.  The InSite web application is our primary interface for accessing our system for PC, tablet and mobile web application.  The InSite mobile application supports our massive hourly workforce by taking much of the functionality of our web application and presenting it in a manor optimized for people working in the field.  As a mobile engineer, you will own our mobile technology and architecture.  This means from shaping the UI to developing the core application to helping to design the back-end services you need to be a driving force.

You will be working along-side other engineers and developers working on different layers of the infrastructure.  You will work with the UI/UX designers and bridge the gap between graphical design and technical implementation, taking an active role on both sides and defining how the application looks as well as how it works.  Additionally, you will work closely with our back-end engineers to integrate and optimize our mobile APIs.  We are looking for a mobile developer who is motivated to combine the art of design with the art of programming.

  • Expert knowledge of Android Studio.
  • Expert knowledge of Java and Android SDK.
  • Expert knowledge of Android emulator(s).
  • Understanding of the capabilities and differences between various Android system versions, and create dynamic layouts for different screen sizes and orientations ranging from phones to tablets.
  • Solid understanding of JSON-based RESTful APIs to connect Android applications to back-end services.
  • Solid experience with offline storage, threading, and performance tuning.
  • Knowledge of the open-source Android ecosystem and the libraries available for common tasks.
  • Understanding of Android power management.
  • Knowledge of enterprise application deployment tools such as Hockey.
  • Ability to understand business requirements and translate them into technical requirements.
  • Design, build, and maintain high performance, reusable, and reliable Java code.
  • Ensure the best possible performance, quality, and responsiveness of the application.
  • Identify and correct bottlenecks and fix bugs.
  • Help maintain code quality, organization, and automatization.
  • Translate designs and wireframes into high quality code.
  • Building reusable code and libraries for future use.
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools and techniques, and automated build / release solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of Android Material Design Guidelines, UI design principles, patterns, and best practices.
  • Ability to design applications around natural user interfaces.
  • Be driven to have a deep understanding of what you and your teammates are working on, why it is important and how your software technology accomplishes business goals.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of software development. 3+ years of consecutive Android development.
  • 5+ years of developing software using agile methods.
  • Contributions to a large open source project is a big plus.
  • Experience being successful in a startup environment is a big plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate cross-functional groups to accomplish goals.
