Job Description

SBM Management is currently looking to hire a Payroll Accountant to join their team at their corporate office in McClellan, CA!  The Payroll Accountant will work with internal and external parties to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations including any jurisdictional requirements. Ensure accurate posting of all payroll transactions to the general ledger. Perform regular analysis and review of configuration and setup for employees, business units, accounting instructions, union codes, accruals and balances. Ensure payroll transactions comply with union agreements. 

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a main point of contact for assessing and managing compliance on payroll tax for municipal, state, and federal withholding.
  • Reconcile payroll tax reporting after each pay run to ensure accurate filings by tax service provider.
  • Assist with resolving discrepancies relating to payroll tax payments and unemployment tax payments with governmental agencies.
  • Review tax updates from third party vender and ensure proper mapping exists for automated tax solution.
  • Research tax jurisdictions to ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines and assist with periodic audits by state and local taxing authorities.
  • Ability to interact with IRS and state and local agencies regarding tax notices.
  • Perform periodic tax reconciliations/audits and recommend course of action to correct any discrepancies.
  • Assist in designing and implementing strong internal controls regarding payroll tax compliance.
  • Review payroll transactions on a weekly basis to ensure accurate posting to the general ledger.
  • Perform periodic audit of payroll transactions, test controls and validate system data and employee balances.
  • Perform month-end close process and liaise with GL team to resolve outstanding items.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration; five to seven years of experience as a staff or senior accountant with payroll tax filings and compliance issues; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Thorough understanding of current payroll tax laws and regulations, including multi-state experience a must. 
  • Prior experience utilizing a third party payroll tax vender is preferred.  
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. 
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of accounting software; database software; payroll systems; spreadsheet software and word processing software.
  • Typing 45+ WPM.

Available Shift:  Full Time

Compensation:  Depends on experience
